Wear resistance of chromium carbide overlay plate

It is relatively complex to evaluate the wear resistance of chromium carbide overlay plate, also  we do not have a clear standard for that. The current method is to test the hardness of wear-resisting layer, and it looks to all of us that the higher hardness, the better wear resistance.

We have different measuring methods to mark hardness, Rockwell hardness HRC, Vivtorinox hardness HV and Brinell hardness HB. Hardness can partly reflect the wear resistance of metal materials, but is not entirely scientific to judge wear resistance by hardness, not the whole explanation. Wear resistance of chromium carbide wear plates can go too far even they share the same Macro Rockwell hardness value, lower macro HRC chromium carbide plate may be work better than higher macro HRC wear-resistant plate.

Normally, we can evaluate wear resistance of chromium carbide wear resistant steel plate from the following several aspects:
1.Macro Rockwell hardness value (HRC)
2.The micro-structure. Metallographic analysis can show the carbides type, quantity, shape, size and distribution, we also can analyze the matrix type and composition.
3.The micro-hardness (HV): test micro hardness value of matrix and carbides
4.ASTM G-65 abrasion test
