In order to ensure the required composition and performance of the wear resistant layer, and save precious metals, we should try to reduce the dilution to the hardfacing layer, we usually use dilution rate (The percentage of the parent metal in the deposited metal) to mark the deposited metal diluted degrees.

Dilution rate, refers to the percentage of base metal melted area and cross-sectional area of hardfacing layer. Dilution rate increases, beneficial components in the deposited metal decreases, so that its hardness, wear resistance and other required properties decrease. The dilution rate is also different when we use different welding methods.

The dilution rate has no direct and inevitable relationship to the wear resistance ability of the Chromium carbide wear resistant welded plate. Emphasizing the low dilution rate of hardfacing coating technology is based on the following reasons:
1.The significance of welding is to replace low wear resistance, heavy conventional material by high wear resistance, thin wear resistant layer (as thin as possible ), in order to improve the service life, and save material, energy.
2. At present, the flux cored welding wire is the mainstream to make chromium carbide overlay plate CCO plate, flux cored wire is composed of a sleeve (rolled steel strip into sleeve) and alloy powder. Sleeve accounted for 40% of the total weight of flux cored wire, the actual alloy filling volume is only about 45% when we remove specific weight factors. That is to say, there is 55% dilution rate during the flux cored wire production process, and there should be a 10%-20% dilution rate during welding.
