Off all the carbides, only the tungsten carbide (WC) and chromium carbide (Cr3C2) are applied in industry as the thermal spray materials. Tungsten carbide is usually suitable to be used as abrasion resistant coating with working temperature below 500 degrees, while  Cr3C2 is used for high temperature (up to 900 degrees) working conditions. Aviation, power generation and automotive manufacturing are the three important ares in the field of thermal spraying technology applications, and Cr3C2 coating is widely used in power generation, metallurgy and aviation system. Research and development of NiCr-Cr3C2 thermal spraying material is necessary in the urgent need of these related industries.

Thermal spraying is a surface strengthening technology, it played coating materials (melted or semi melting ) on the substrates using arc, plasma arc, gas oxygen and other forms, forming a coating that have a certain function. Differences on selected material and spraying method, the coating has the advantages of abrasion resistance, antioxidant, conductance and resistance, atmospheric corrosion resistance and dipping, chemical corrosion resistance, heat insulation and high temperature resistant, restore size, parts clearance control functions. Also has extended to the decoration or bio engineering and other fields in recent years, thus thermal spraying has been widely used in different engineering sectors, including all areas of aerospace, aviation, transportation, railway, petrochemical, mining, metallurgy, electric power, machinery etc.
