cracks on chromium carbide overlay plate

chromium carbide overlay plate is produced by hardfacing procedure. Between base materials and wear resistant material is metallurgic combination in welding. Due to different expansion ratio of the wear resistant material and base material, there will be great welding stress in hardfacing. Normal material with no cracks will easily fall off during working.

VAUTID welding material will generate crack after welding to release stress. Cracks usually goes in vertical direction to welding bead, and it does not go into base material. Cracks generated by stress will not decrease the life time of working piece.

Cracks show high hardness too, materials with hardness over HRC 58 usually generate cracks.
