Before making chromium carbide overlay plate, we need to select a suitable backing plate, and the best base plate should be soft and tough. For us, chromium carbide wear plate base plate can be all weldable steel plate, mostly mostly structural steels. Normally Q235B steel plate is a kind of very common base plate to be used.

As we all know AR400 is a kind of wear resistant steel plate with super resistance against wear and impact, some client intend to use AR400 as base plate for a better wear resistant property. But sorry to say AR400 wear plate has very poor welding performance (CE=0.596%), high hardness but low strength, hardfacing layer will peel off after welding, so AR 400 is not recommended as backing plate.

Stainless steel plate can be used as base plate for corrosion applications.
